Tampa Roller Derby is thrilled to announce an exciting new chapter in our league’s history! We’re now officially part of the Men’s Roller Derby Association (MRDA), and we couldn’t be prouder to introduce our new team—The Death Rollers!
We’ve been an open-gender league since 2017, welcoming skaters of all identities to compete in our home team games. In 2022, following our triumphant post-COVID return, we started forming and recruiting for the Death Rollers to offer a pathway for open-gender interleague competitive gameplay. This newly sanctioned team is now an exciting expansion for our league, which already boasts three Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) teams.
What’s the inspiration for the name? The name “Death Rollers” comes from the powerful alligator’s infamous “death roll”—a ferocious spinning technique used to subdue prey. Just like their namesake, The Death Rollers are ready to take the derby world by storm with grit, agility, and unmatched tenacity.
Catch the Death Rollers in action! We can’t wait for you to witness our newest team dominate the track! You can cheer them on during Tampa Roller Derby’s highly anticipated Franky Panky tournament, happening March 8-9. Don’t forget to swing by our merch table to grab your official Death Roller gear and show your support!
Want to join the action? Think you have what it takes to be a Death Roller? We’re holding tryouts for the 2025 season on Sunday, January 12 at 7:30pm at Skateworld of Tampa. Sign up here.
Stay tuned for more updates, and get ready to roll with the fiercest team in town—The Death Rollers are here!
